Ramblings of a Book-A-Holic

Beowulf: A New Verse Translation

Beowulf: A New Verse Translation - Seamus Heaney, Anonymous This is my second time reading this book, the first was for my English class in high school, and this time was for my British Literature course. After reading it for a second time, I reached the conclusion that my feelings for this book has not changed. I am still not a big fan of Beowulf. For one thing, his character does nothing for me. He is boastful, even when he says he is not boasting (lies!), and his bravery all has to do with glory. He makes it seem like he fights all these monsters for the greater good, but in reality, he just wants the glory and fame that comes with it. I, personally, hate reading about cocky, conceited characters; I find them obnoxious and annoying. I hate saying bad things about books, but I do hope this is the last time I will ever read Beowulf.
